Current Healthcare Providers’ Guidelines for Treating Asthma in Children, Adolescents, and Adults

Practice guidelines can improve both the outcomes and process of care when managing patients with asthma. The most current Global Strategy for Asthma Management and Prevention (Global Initiative for Asthma [GINA] guideline) was updated in 2023 and provides clinicians with guidance on diagnostic considerations, risk assessment, symptomatic management, and guidance for escalating therapy in cases of severe uncontrolled asthma. These evidence-based guidelines for treating asthma in children, adolescents, and adults are particularly useful for the recognition of appropriate treatment patterns for asthma of varying severity.1
